Norway runs past Sweden in music streaming

Music streaming services are gaining ground fast in the Scandinavian countries and revenue to the music industry is increasing. A market survey conducted by Norstat for music service WiMP in January 2012, shows that the proportion of Norwegians who have access to a music streaming service has increased from 37 to 56 percent in the last six months. For the first time, Norway has surpassed Sweden in this statistic - in Sweden during the same period the corresponding figure increased from 48 to 54 percent.

Norwegian Canal Digital launches WiMP on TV

Today, Norwegian satellite customers of television distributor Canal Digital gains access to music service WiMP directly on their TV. The music service becomes a natural part of the TV menu for Canal Digital customers with the new PVR decoder from ADB. A few simple keystrokes on the remote control gives customers full access to the entire music catalogue and editorial content from WiMP. Music service WiMP summarizes 2011 and looks ahead in 2012

In 2011, the number of WiMP-users increased explosively and with it also usage of the service. In Norway, WiMP registered a five-fold increase in the number of streams per day from January to December and Swedish daily streams doubled over the last six months of the year. WiMP's editorial team published more than 500 varied playlists in each country and thus delivered new daily content for its customers. Norwegian retail chain Platekompaniet takes an owner position of 6.5% in Aspiro, after the two parties signed an agreement today. Platekompaniet sells its stocks in the Norwegian subsidiary WiMP Music AS, for the holdings in Aspiro AB. Aspiro then assumes total control of the Norwegian WiMP, while Platekompaniet takes the opportunity of participating in Aspiro’s international expansion. The acquisition is financed by a new share issue in Aspiro, equivalent to approximately SEK 16 million.
