Opens for the sale of unsigned bands and artists

Platekompaniet opens in its Aspiro-delivered music store a new service called Juba, which gives unsigned bands and artists the opportunity to sell their songs digitally. The artists will thus have the opportunity to make money on the sale of their music. The music will also be available in the upcoming streaming service Wimp.

Aspiro delivers music stores to Platekompaniet and Telenor in Norway and the Juba service will be launched in the first instance in their download stores, but will later also be available in Aspiro’s streaming service the Wimp.

Initially, Norwegian artists can register at Platekompaniet websites and the hope is that artists in all genres of music may wish to use the service.

- We see this as a unique opportunity for unsigned artists to market themselves and thus move forward with their music. Through Facebook and MySpace and other social media, we believe artists can monetize their music and have the opportunity to be discovered by the music press and record companies, says Sveinung Rindal, head of Platekompaniet’s music store.

After New Years, the end-users will get the opportunity to discover new bands and artists in the music stores and Platekompaniet also continues with its tradition to recommend music from these artists, where they also will receive attention at the store's main homepage.

- Our goal is to get a Juba-artist on the Norwegian charts in 2010, and here, the artists have a great opportunity to help themselves, says Sveinung Rindal.
